Returns of Raw and Prepared opium seized in

1917 submitted. It will be observed that the seizures of

Raw opium are almost negligible but it must not be assumed

that this reduction in any way represents the true condition

of the traffic in 1112bit raw opium from India to China.

It is known to me &A an infierutable fast

trat nearly $500,000 worth of raw opium was taken on board

the "Sun Tak", chartered by Mitsui Bussan Kaisha for Tata

pig iron from Calcutta to Hongkong and deliberately canno

round the Colony and landed at Chilen Point, rear swato7.

This was at the end of last year. I advised Mr. Harris but

the ship managed to evade the Chinese Maritime Customs. Tre

Mitsui Bussan Kaisha wewe not implicated.
